The Steve Alcock Legacy Fund – Donate Here
4 August 2026Hi everyone,
I hope this finds you well and enjoying these beautiful days of autumn that have come our way. What great weather to get out and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family! We at the Children’s Foundation have been very busy these last few months – here are some highlights to catch you up.
In May, Bryn Armstrong and her crew of volunteers hosted, ‘Christmas in May’, an all female fundraising event designed to give back to the community. As the beneficiary this year, the CFM received an incredible donation of over $27,000! What a fun night and fantastic act of giving by Bryn and her friends. Thank you!
We’re so grateful to Myke Malone and his team who hosted the 3rd annual Brownie Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of Mike Brown which provided an outstanding $56,000 to the Mike Brown Fund for Youth in Sports at the CFM. The Men of Grandview continue to display their philanthropic ways with another $30,000 donation which also supported the Huntsville High School Clothes Closet and Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club through the CFM. And thanks again to the Silver Slicers at the South Muskoka Curling and Golf Club for their donation.
Also in the summer, the Breaking Bread Fundraiser in Port Carling raised $10,000 for Muskoka kids! Thank you.
The Rizzuto family continues to support the CFM Toni Lynn Campership Fund and raised $14,000 to help send kids to camp! Thanks Tina and friends for your continued support.
Speaking of camp, the CFM sent 160 kids to camp this summer! 91 children enjoyed a week at one of the many day camps across the District and 69 attended a residential (overnight) camps. One parent of a camper told us that the experience was transformative for her child – she said the sense of community that camp provided was a life changer. “The joy of making new friends and participating in group activities help him feel more self-assured and less focused on his anxieties.”
The CFM was honoured to create the Steve Alcock Legacy Fund in memory of Steve – one of Muskoka’s finest who we lost this summer. The fund has been established to support economically disadvantaged youth to pursue post-secondary training and education in the trades. Do you know a great candidate who would benefit? Would you like to donate to it? Visit our website at childrenofmuskoka.com for more information.
Speaking of our website, we are presently in the midst of a ‘freshen up’! Thanks to our partners Jen and her team at Creative One for their support – can’t wait for the big reveal! Visit our website soon to see for yourself.
Finally, we’re 2 weeks out from our biggest fundraiser of the year – the 22nd annual Fundraising Gala presented by the Wise Family Foundation at Windermere House! The event sold out in the first 2 weeks back in the spring and with all our sponsors back on board as well as a bunch of new ones, we are looking to surpass last year’s high watermark of $88,000 raised! You can help us do this even if you’re not attending this year – visit our website on Monday November 9th as our silent auction goes live online! There are over 40 beautiful (and generously donated items from our local friends and supporters) available to bid on. Looking for a trip to beautiful Costa Rica? How about a weekend at the JW Marriott Muskoka? A beautiful original painting? A signed Leaf jersey or your own box for a game? Visit our online auction at childrenofmuskoka.com and get in on the fun! A big thanks to our gala co-chairs and Board members Val Newland and Shannon Corbeil for leading the way.
As always, we continued to be humbled and so grateful for the support we receive. We will continue to work hard in the days ahead to ensure every child and young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
Dave Lyons,
Executive Director, CFM.
